Newborn Stomach Size

Why is it important to know your newborn's stomach size?

  • When breastfeeding in the first few days, know that your little one needs only small amounts! It is a common misconception to think you're not "making enough" If you're feeding on cue and emptying your breasts often, you're doing what you need to do. Babies cluster feed - which means small feeds more often due to their tiny bellies.
  • Look for signs of satiety in a bottle fed baby - open hands, relaxation and more. This gives us an indication that baby is done.
