How to Prevent Mastitis

Nursing mothers are at risk of Mastitis when bacteria enter the breast through a cracked or sore nipple. It usually starts as a painful area in one breast.

Here’s how to prevent it from happening.

1. Avoid Poorly Fitting Bras.

Plugged ducts are caused by pressure on parts of the breasts that stops the milk from flowing through the duct.

2. Hand express or pump milk regularly to prevent your breasts from getting too full. Ducts can get inflamed or plugged up when it is not effectively removed.

3. Moisturize your nipples regularly and air-dry it after breastfeeding to prevent cracking and irritation.
