Topical Uses of Breast Milk

  1. Nipple discomfort or dryness – Gently pat a few drops of breast milk onto your nipples after a feed and leave it to air dry.
  2. Eczema – Using freshly expressed breast milk and cotton ball or soft cloth, gently pat it over the affected skin, and allow the milk to air dry.
  3. Blocked tear ducts – Use a cotton ball along with freshly expressed breast milk to gently wipe the discharge from your baby’s eyes.  Use a fresh one for each eye.

Breast milk is known to be an effective first-line treatment for some conditions like nipple discomfort, eczema and blocked tear ducts. However, it is always good to see a healthcare professional if you have concerns about your or your child’s health.
