When Can Babies Drink Water?

Breastmilk is the perfect food and drink for your baby, but you might be wondering when you should start hydrating them with water.

Breast milk contains all the nutrition and hydration properties your little one needs until they hit six months old.

After they hit six months old, they may get curious and try more foods - their feeding habits may evolve to more than just breast milk/formula. During this time, it is time to introduce water into their diet besides drinking from a bottle!

When can babies drink water?

0 to 6 months – you should focus on feeding breastmilk or formula.

6 to 12 months – you can offer a small amount of water, but you should not replace their milk feedings.

12 months onwards – you may offer both milk and water as their main source of hydration.
