5 Signs Your Baby Is Getting Enough Milk
(0-6 weeks)
Worried if your baby is feeding well? These signs can help reassure you.
1. Regular Wet Diapers
In the early weeks, expect at least 6 to 8 wet diapers a day. This is one of the clearest signs your baby is well hydrated and feeding effectively.
2. Steady Weight Gain
After the normal weight loss in the first few days after birth, babies should begin gaining weight steadily. Your paediatrician or lactation consultant can help monitor healthy progress.
3. Content After Feeds
A baby who appears relaxed, calm, or even sleepy after feeding is often satisfied. Not every feed ends in sleep, but frequent calmness is a positive sign.
4. Active Swallowing During Feeds
You may notice rhythmic sucking and swallowing, especially once milk flow has established. This shows that milk transfer is happening.
5. Crying Isn’t Always Hunger
Newborns cry for many reasons, including needing comfort, a diaper change, or feeling overstimulated. Crying alone does not automatically mean your milk supply is low.
Reach Out
If you’re unsure or feeling anxious, reach out to a lactation professional. Support can make all the difference.
