Article: Are you sure its the right fit?

Are you sure its the right fit?

Are you sure its the right fit?

Did you know your nipple size can change throughout your breastfeeding journey? That's why your flange size isn't always a one time measurement. Checking your nipple size from time to time helps ensure a comfortable fit and more effective milk expression.

Your body changes, and your pumping setup should change with it too.

1.    Nipple size increases during pregnancy, peaks right after birth, then settles as milk supply regulates

2.    With each pregnancy, breast tissue turns more elastic, causing faster size changes

3.    Frequent pumping (8+ times a day) over time can change your nipple size

Here’s how to correctly measure your nipple and find your fit

Measure the nipple only, without the areola

Pick the size that fits snugly around your nipple with little to no extra space

Your flange size = nipple size + 2-3mm

Most pumps come in 24mm.  If you’re smaller, use an insert (typically comes in 17, 19, or 21mm)

If you need a bigger size, some pumps offer larger flanges (imani standard 25mm size, imani 28mm size)

Pumping should not hurt.  Ongoing pain or discomfort means it’s time to resize!
