Signs Your Flange Size May Be Wrong

Pumping shouldn’t be painful 🤍

If you’ve been feeling discomfort, swelling or struggling with output, your flange size might be the reason. A proper fit can make a huge difference in both comfort and efficiency during your pumping journey.

Nipple rubbing painfully against the tunnel

Your nipple should move comfortably within the flange tunnel.  If it rubs harshly against the sides, your flange may be too small.

Too much areola being pulled in

A little areola movement is normal, but if a large amount is being pulled into the tunnel, your flange may be too big

Low milk output despite pumping regularly

An incorrect flange size can affect suction and milk removal efficiency, leading to lower output over time.

Swelling or redness after pumping

Persistent redness, swelling or tenderness after sessions may be a sign that your flange fit is causing unnecessary friction.

Pain during or after sessions

Pumping should not feel painful.  Ongoing discomfort can often be improved with the correct flange size and fit.
