Here’s how to troubleshoot with your imani pump. No leaks, just smooth pumping! 

The Leak Test

Assemble your handsfree cup as per usual and fill it with water.  Hold it in the upright position like you would when pumping.

Is it leaking water?

YES:  

-       Cup may have misshapen

-       Parts may not be assembled properly

-       Parts may have loosened after frequent use and need to be replaced

1)    Incorrect flange/insert size – if your flange or insert does not fit well, milk may leak from the gaps.  Try a flange or insert 1 size down and it should help!

2)    Improper posture – our pumps are designed for use when seated upright.  If you are lying down or leaning back too much, milk may escape from the flange.

3)    Nipple misalignment – Nipples should be placed in the center of the flange when pumping.  If you are not able to do so, your flange or insert might not be the right fit.

4)    Fast let-down or high supply – Do you experience fast let-down?  A fast milk flow may cause milk to backflow into the flange as the valve opening may not be large enough to allow all the milk to pass through quickly.  Lean slightly forward when you experience your let-down and it should help!

5)    Wear and tear – To ensure optimal performance, we recommend replacing the parts of your imani cups every 3-6 months, depending on usage.  Failing to replace them may cause the parts to loosen, affecting the snug fit and seal, which could result in leaks when pumping.
