Tips on relieving that painful engorgement

Gentle Breast Massage

Massage your breasts in gently circular motions toward the nipple to encourage drainage and ease blocked ducts.  For extra efficiency, use a lactation massager to help stimulate flow and relieve pressure faster.

Warm Compress Before Feeding

A warm shower or warm cloth helps soften the breast and improve milk flow

Frequent Nursing or Pumping

Feed on demand or express milk regularly (every 2-3 hours) to prevent breasts from becoming overly full.  If your baby skips a feed, pump or hand express to relieve pressure.

Supportive Bra

Wear a comfortable, supportive bra (not too tight!) to help reduce pain and swelling.
