Most parents out there have a stash of plates stacked in the cupboard for their children to use. These plates are normally made from plastic and melamine because it’s lightweight, inexpensive and unbreakable. These however could be making you and your children very sick.
Melamine is an industrial compound created from one of three chemicals, urea, hydrogen cyanide, or dicyandiamide. The melamine resin from which dinnerware is made is a result of its combination with formaldehyde, a substance classified as a probable carcinogen (that's right formaldehyde!) and even if its BPA free there are still harmful chemicals in plastic.
Melamine and plastic are also un-recyclable and do not break down having devastating effects on our environment. Plastic constitutes approximately 90 percent of all trash floating on the ocean’s surface, with 46,000 pieces of plastic per square mile. How scary is that!
There are now many alternatives to these old school nasties and here at Haakaa we go out of our way to find you not only the safest products for your children but also our planet.
Made from 100% food grade silicone our divided plates are the perfect dinnerware solution for fussy little eco friendly nuggets.
